EMR – The Invisible Toxin

Electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, are produced by many natural and man-made sources, including sunlight, electrical wiring, mobile phones, Wi-Fi routers and household appliances.

People are exposed to different types and levels of electromagnetic fields in everyday life. Research into the possible health effects of long-term exposure is ongoing, and findings vary depending on the type of field, exposure level and circumstances being studied.

Current public health guidance generally focuses on using devices according to manufacturer instructions and following recognised safety standards.

Practical Ways to Use Technology Mindfully

People who would like to reduce unnecessary device exposure may consider simple habits such as:

  • Keeping mobile phones and other devices away from the body when they are not in use

  • Using speaker mode or headphones for longer calls

  • Avoiding sleeping with a phone directly beside the bed

  • Turning off devices or Wi-Fi when they are not needed

  • Following manufacturer guidance for safe device use

  • Taking regular breaks from screens

  • Keeping work and sleep environments comfortable and uncluttered

These steps are general lifestyle choices and should not be interpreted as treatment or as proof that ordinary device use is harmful.

Products Marketed for EMF Protection

A range of products are marketed as providing protection from electromagnetic fields. The quality of evidence supporting these products varies, and some claims may not be supported by reliable research.

Before purchasing any product marketed for health protection, consider:

  • What evidence supports the claim

  • Whether the product has been independently tested

  • Whether the marketing relies on fear or guarantees

  • Whether the product replaces recognised safety guidance

Freshwater Chiropractic does not claim that pendants, stickers, crystals or similar products prevent disease or protect against specific health conditions.

When to Seek Advice

If you have concerns about symptoms you believe may be related to your environment, speak with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Persistent symptoms can have many possible causes and should not automatically be attributed to electromagnetic field exposure.

For technical concerns about wiring, appliances or building safety, seek advice from a qualified electrician or another appropriate professional.
